One Summer Day Before School Started

Seated on kitchen bar stools, the two moms chatted amicably as they sipped their diet soda. The two girls were smiling and laughing as they blew bubbles with the bubble soap and wands they had. What a great summer activity.

The pile of coloring books was in disarray on the patio table and the crayons were rolling freely, waiting for them to select a new color. They were five years old and starting school in the fall. Their young mothers were talking about how this would change their lives.

The kids would need raincoats, rain boots and possibly an umbrella. The manufacturers made safety conscious umbrellas for children now. They had no sharp points to endanger the kids. Talking about yellow or red as the color of choice, they also considered blue.

They chatted on about what stores to shop at for the best bargains. The school had already mailed each mom a list of what the kids needed to bring to class. In addition to school supplies, each child was asked to bring a large box of tissues to share, box by box with the entire class.

With a loft bed, there is more floor space for the kids to play on. They had so many toys. The moms planned a shopping trip to the mall together. They would go to the furniture stores first to price loft beds.

They discussed the safety factors of loft beds in general. Safety was important, of course. The attractive appearance was also important. The kids had to like the way they looked.

They agreed to go bed shopping and then several stops at the mall would allow them to see what school clothes and supplies were on sale this week. The girls always wanted to go for ice cream during a shopping trip to the mall.

The kids usually stared at the large selection for ten minutes before deciding what flavor they wanted. Each flavor was delicious in their eyes. The moms usually had frozen yogurt to conserve calories. They did smile at each other at the thought of their little girls getting all sticky as they enjoyed their cones.

That evening one mother sat at the counter, on the modern bar stools, and told her husband about the shopping plans for later in the week. They prepared salads and sipped cool drinks as they discussed prices of beds and clothes. They agreed on a budget limit on school clothes.

Knowing how fast kids grew, they didn't want to buy too many clothes in the same size. They both loved the idea of a loft bed for their daughter's room. It would last many years and save space in the bedroom.
