The only way to get them really stiff is to use spray starch. The best way to get them super stiff is to use a Heavy spray starch, rather than using too much of the regular starch. Flakes come from using too much starch & also having the heat on the iron too high. Also, try turning your pants inside out to iron. This will keep any flaking on the inside. (Unless you are wanting a crease in them, then you will need to turn them right side out)
